Regional Council

Regional Council is the main legislative and governing body for Halifax and its 16 districts. It is comprised of the Mayor and 16 Councillors. Councillors also sit on boards, committees and commissions, standing committees and community councils in the district where they've been elected.

These 16 elected officials are an essential democratic link between residents and local government. Look up your councillor.

Halifax Council passes resolutions, policies, By-laws and Administrative Orders as the means of providing direction - official records of these documents can be provided through the Office of the Municipal Clerk.  The Halifax Regional Charter is the provincial legislation that provides governance oversight to the Region.

Accountability & Transparency

The municipality is committed to freedom of information and protection of the privacy of personal information it holds and to being open and accountable to its citizens.
